Guava Chutney

Guava Chutney
Guava Chutney

Last weekend I had the opportunity to visit a guava farm that engages in organic farming techniques to grow this tropical fruit. While talking to friends, came to know about so many amazing ways this nutrient-packed fruit, rich in dietary fiber and vitamin C is used to create an amazing array of dishes.

Here’s one such – Sweet & Spicy Guava Chutney was truly delightful. The contrast of flavours from sweetness of semi-ripe guavas and the spiciness of green chillies & fresh ginger works wonders in this chutney. Not to mention the contrast of texture between the smoothness of its flesh and the tiny crunch of the seeds that are blended along.

The sweet & spicy guava chutney paired deliciously well with dosas. It will certainly work deliciously with idlis, uttapams and paniyarams too… maybe with spicy cutlets and tikkis too.

Last year I had made a couple of batches of Guava Jam with pink guavas and I must tell you, it is truly a delight. The pastel pink coloured jam with its slightly granular texture tastes absolutely delicious and this jam will ensure you relish this tropical fruit a little longer!

If you thought guavas taste best with salt and red chilli powder alone, give this chutney a chance, you’ll be amazed how it can be included in our daily meals!
